Short History On A Bohemian Style

Bohemian Style

The precise origins of female boho fashion and culture are heavily discussed. Deprivation struck authors, creatives, writers, and artists after the French Revolution ended in 1799. They seemed to have no selection here but to dress in old, worn-out clothes that were out of date. This progressed into a hippie culture lifestyle that was less concerned with possessions and more concerned with creative individualism.

Others argue that the first Bohemians were tribal Romani people from Bohemia in the Czech Republic. However, the Romani folks revolted against society’s standards and turned down popular lifestyles. Whatever the roots, one point stays unchanged: being a boho means leading an unusual lifestyle. This usually equates to a modern-day boho style with clothing that allows for expression. Consider easygoing cutouts styled with informal accessories. As a result, an artistic, inventive, strange mix of boho elements.

What Is Bohemian Fashion Style in Women’s Fashion?

Bohemian Fashion Style

Boho style is fundamentally about being independent in soul, body, and mind. It has a comfortable and expressive vibe to it. Women’s free-spirited bohemian fashion style has developed over the years, but the excitement has stayed strong. Bohemian components include unstructured cutouts, natural materials, and folk-inspired designs and patterns. So, what is the best part? Bohemian fashion style is all about combining these elements with ease of wear. Comfortable and fashionable? It is simply a win-win situation.

Chic Bohemian Fashion Style Guide

Don’t overcomplicate it!

Keep in mind that the goal of this look is to appear chilly, cooled, laid back, and subtle. Given that, long flowy layers are all components of the bohemian chic look, but trying to drown yourself in them will definitely help you appear like you have tried extremely hard – the total opposite of what bohemian fashion style is just all about.

When it comes to color schemes, consider earthy hues

The bohemian style embodies the idea of being at one with nature. Consider warm earthy shades such as dark brown, tan, cream, olive green, khaki, etc. khaki.

It is time to start building once you have decided on your base colors, which should be toasty, earthy, and in harmony with nature. Purples, deep reds, gold, silver, or a pop of other vivid colors will enhance the look gorgeously. Just keep in mind that if your outfit contains more than four colors, you are already in the danger area.

Allow the past to play a role in the present

In the world of fashion, vintage and bohemian are typically connected at the hip. The fashions we currently know as bohemian have their origins in the fashion of the 1960s and 1970s. Your grandma’s floral prints, wide leg trousers, and distressed leather bags might all help you build your own distinctive bohemian fashion style with a great splash of classic or vintage pleasure.

There is no denying that bohemian fashion is a fantastic style. It gives us a glimpse of the fun, peaceful coexistence, and tranquility in what might be a bland and dull day in a bizarre way. It has the power to draw attention, put a smile on someone’s face, and reassure an elderly person of a youthful mystery.

While bohemian fashion sets up an awesome, easy, and subtle appearance, it might be difficult to achieve. Keep in mind, don’t overcomplicate the layers, stick to cozy and earthy colors, and incorporate a touch of the old days into your look; you will soon be rocking bohemian in ways you never thought would be possible.

Bohemian Fashion Wardrobe Essentials

Chic Bohemian

A Midi or Maxi Skirt

When it comes to creating cool boho outfits, a fabulous midi or maxi skirt will be a go-to item.

Because they are the simplest to put together attire from, the best maxi skirts are typically basic, with very few patterns, and not too wavy.

  • Pair your maxi skirt with a simple, plaid crop top. Don’t forget to put on a floppy sun hat for a fast and easy outdoor look.
  • Combine a basic maxi skirt with a graphic tee or tank top. Layer with a versatile jacket. Complete with a top knot and a pair of summer sandals.
  • Pair it with a denim jacket or a button-down flannel. Finish the appearance with a pair of canvas sneakers and a vibrant lip color.

Neutral-Toned Ankle Boots

Neutral-Toned Ankle Boots

Adorable ankle booties are bohemian women’s fashion staples, and they typically come in a plethora of styles.

It is totally within your area if you really want a pair of tall heel booties or not, but always ensure that the heel is not too slim or high so that your booties will stay comfy while watching live performances or walking to school.

Here are just some of the various ways I like to wear ankle booties:

  • Pair your ankle booties with your loose knit sweater, flare leg jeans, and a hippie headband for a classy or laid-back date appearance.
  • Ankle booties are perfect for wearing with skirts and dresses. When putting on maxi skirts, still go for well-fitted shoes, but the shorter the maxi skirt is, the clumsier your boots can be.
  • I am really obsessed with the fringed ankle booties I have been seeing all over Instagram. These will look great with an off-the-shoulder top, a slit maxi skirt, and a big wristband pile.

Fashionable Hairbands and Head Wraps

Fashionable Hairbands and Head Wraps

Vanessa Hudgens, the bohemian babe, may not have created the headwrap, but she definitely helped popularize it.

I began by wearing thin bohemian headbands but have since graduated to edgier cloth fashions—extra points for those of you who are basically brave enough to wear a flower crown.

And here are some creative ways to wear hairbands and head wraps:

  • Wrap braids look stunning all over your forehead, and yet I prefer to wear them back around one or two inches past my hairline, somewhat like a ring. This is a great way to dress a headwrap if the stretchy is too tight to smoothly wear all over your forehead. Fabric styles look fantastic like this as well.
  • Hairbands are an excellent way to add glitz and style to a bad-hair-day top knot.
  • Add styling products (like texture) before wearing. I have discovered that these types of wraps actually look gorgeous with textured, wavy, or curly hair instead of my natural straight condition. Before you put on your outfit, apply a small amount of salt spray and squish or scrunch big sections of hair.

A one-of-a-kind Maxi Dress

Boho maxi dress

We actually owe a huge “thank you” to the Olsens of the 2000s for creating maxi dresses so popular. I adore everything with pattern or print, but lace detailing is equally lovely. You don’t really want to be too simple. For additional points, search for nature-inspired or geometric prints.

  • For an ideal date evening appearance, pair a printed maxi with a pair of wedge sandals, and don’t forget your chunky jewelry.
  • To make it much more comfortable, pair a printed maxi dress with a denim vest.
  • To make the dress into a skirt, simply add a distressed sweater. Complete with a pair of ankle booties.

A Pair of Leather Sandals

Leather Sandals with boho style

Bohemian leather sandals are a lifesaver. They are ideal for any warm-weather event because they are literally light and airy while still looking polished and stylish.

  • For ultimate versatility, search for styles that are simple to slip on and take off. Nothing is more inconvenient than sandals that take up to five minutes just to put on and take off.
  • That being said, lace-up strappy sandals are a major statement piece, especially when paired with denim shorts and wavy, off-the-shoulder tops.
  • Birkenstocks are considered one of the best bohemian, classic sandals because they are not only super comfy, but they also last forever and improve with wear.

Slouchy Knit Sweaters and Cardigans

Knit Cardigans and Wide-Brim Hat

Sweaters and cardigans are essentials for any look, but for a boho vibe, go for fringed, lacy-knit, and slightly frumpy variants.

These are ideal for layering and are soft and lightweight enough to wear in the spring, autumn, and winter. Another fantastic feature of this piece is that you really can pick a good variant at almost every one of your favorite stores.

I really like to wear open-knit cardigans and sweaters in the following ways:

  • Wear a tank under an oversized knitted sweater, together with a pair of bell bottoms and high-heeled ankle booties for a quick and simple outfit that will definitely make Stevie Nicks green with envy. Dress with a headwrap, and don’t forget your cross-body bag.
  • For a stylish, layered cut, wear a boxy cardigan over a graphic t-shirt and a mini skirt. Style with sequin tights, a pair of booties, and a broad-brimmed hat.
  • Wear a chunky off-the-shoulder sweater with an adorable bralette under it. And after that, add ripped wide leg jeans, a pair of leather moccasins, and big sunglasses to complete the look.

A Fedora or A Wide-Brim Hat

Lulus’ hat category is my preferred place to buy bohemian fashion style hats. As you might know, they offer a broad range with lots and lots of cheap alternatives (most of them are under $30)! I am particularly fond of their basic black fedora hat. It is both stylish and reasonably priced.

Top tip: You don’t even have to spend a lot of money on a wide-brimmed hat. In fact, I have discovered that the more costly variants don’t keep their shape as well as the less expensive ones. That said, you will be able to afford a new boho hat each and every season.

  • A basic straw sun hat styled with a summer dress, a pair of summer sandals, and large sunglasses is the ideal summer outfit for carnivals, and picnic strolls, family outings, and other outdoor activities.
  • A felt hat with a droopy brim adds a nice boho touch to any autumn or winter attire. Wear it with a slouchy cardigan, ripped skinny black jeans, and a pair of pointed toe mules.
  • Put one on with a basic white t-shirt, a long cardigan, mom jeans, and a pair of Birks to complete the look.

Loose, Breezy Tanks, and/or Crop Tops

Crop Tops with boho styles

When I think of boho fashion style, one of the very first things that happen to mind are light and airy, strappy, seamless tops.

Whereas adorable little crop tops are currently stylish right now, if you tend to favor belly button cover, comfortable, loose-fitting cami tanks are an absolutely adorable choice. The appearance is all about something light and breathable. It is literally a top that might look at home on a seaside somewhere else.

In addition, embellished tops are wonderful for this boho style. Look for delightful original versions at any antique or vintage stores in your neighborhood.

If you don’t like loud patterns or embellishment, just go for a plain white tank or crop top. Add tangled denim cutoffs and a loose-fitting cardigan to complete the look.

  • These tops would always look great paired with flared jeans, earthy jewelry, and a pair of platform sandals.
  • Simply pair your favorite tops with a maxi skirt, a pair of summer sandals, a scarf, and big sunglasses.
  • In the warmer months, these tops plead to be matched with layered gold jewelry and a tan hat.

Prints in Vibrant, Stunning Colors

Nothing beats the rich appearance of a bold, vibrantly colored printed piece for adding a free-spirited, earthly edge to your closet.

This classification includes all pieces and price ranges, so before you buy, consider what item you will wear the most as well as how much you are willing to spend.

  • For an easy summer look, match a confidently printed wrap maxi dress with a pair of strappy sandals and a broad brim fedora hat, and don’t forget to add some layered necklaces.
  • Printed kimono-design cover-ups are definitely worth consideration, and I am particularly fond of those with playful prints. Pair it with an adorable crop top and ripped mom jeans.
  • Try on a tie-dye maxi dress like your beloved TikTok stars. Tie-dye is such a stylish bohemian print. Your gown will look stunning with a pair of platform sandals and large sunglasses.

Layered, quirky jewelry

The more one-of-a-kind the boho jewelry, the nicer. And you just don’t need to be afraid to layer it.

Here, any of it goes: Search for unique reveals at incense stores, thrift shops, flea markets, Etsy, or maybe even create your own jewelry. The point here is to look for items that are one-of-a-kind and edgy. Even better if they combine natural features such as suede, stone, turquoise, coral, or wood.

Normally, bohemian babes wear gold tone jewelry. However, this is not always a strict rule. In other words, if silver is the right thing for you, just go for it.

  • Bohemian statement earrings are a favorite of Lisa Bonet. Oversized hoops and opaque geometric patterns are two of my favorite styles. Puffy hoops are also popular at the moment now.
  • Another ideal statement piece that freely adds fashion to the otherwise boring attire is a layered necklace. Search for any item that includes multiple layered necklaces that are all tied to make this incredibly simple as well as tangle-free.
  • Embellished bracelets in gold and other colors will never go out of fashion and will also add a lot to a basic cutoffs-and-sweater outfit. In reality, you can wear them with anything and simply layer them up.

A Boho-Chic Purse

Boho-Chic Purse

No matter if you tend to favor distressed cloth or leather, suede or fringe, an oversized or a small cross-body bohemian bag, having a dependable and wonderful boho purse is essential for tying your attire together.

  • Cross-body bags are great since they free up your hands. This seems to be hugely helpful at live performances or music events! A small to medium-sized frilly bag will be ideal for this. I also like neutral colors overall for these; for example, beiges, tans, and browns look great.
  • Another popular trend among the bohemian throng of people is the use of woven circle-shaped bags. These could be found almost anywhere and are a perfect way to add some earthiness to your appearance.
  • Last but not least, the canvas sling bag was, is, and will always be a mainstay for earthy ladies. It is yet another way to combine a colorful, bold print into an otherwise simple outfit.

A Versatile Vest

As you might all know, vests are fantastic since they can be worn with so many various items in your wardrobe.

Wear them with simple maxi dresses, floral mini dresses, or even a basic t-shirt and cutoffs. The possibilities are just limitless.

  • Denim vests actually look great with almost everything in your wardrobe. Pair it with a simple v-neck tee, a maxi skirt, and a pair of sandals. Complete with a bohemian headwrap.
  • A crocheted vest also has an elegant bohemian vibe to it. Simply match it with a tank top and a pair of flared jeans or a floral dress.
  • Even though fringe vests are very boho-chic, they can also appear costume-y when styled with way too many other bohemian pieces. Match your fringe vest with a pair of skinny jeans or a little black dress and a t-shirt to avoid appearing over the top.

Flared Jeans

Do you still remember your preferred jeans from 2004? My flared jeans are long past the time of ever fitting me once more. However, several years ago, I literally couldn’t help but desire the slim and long legs and curvaceous butt that they just seemed to give me.

Premium high-rise versions can be found online at Free People and Urban Outfitters, but American Eagle’s flare jeans are just really easy to find, reasonably priced, and incredibly comfortable. A must-have for the bohemian look.

  • Flared denim enhances the appearance of specific pairs of shoes. I have to admit that high-heeled boots are always my preferred thing to style with bell bottoms. In general, bell bottoms look great with wedges, flat sandals, and platform sandals.
  • Flared jeans look great with a crocheted sweater and a large, vibrantly colored scarf. Complete with a top knot and an oversized pair of sunglasses.
  • Perhaps it is poor style, but I have to admit that I occasionally enjoy the appearance of wearing jeans with dresses. Wearing very short tunic-length dresses that are not really womanly at the hem is the crucial component to looking attractive and not unstylish. Complete the appearance with platform sandals and a bohemian cross-body bag.

Large Sunglasses

Generally speaking, oversized sunglasses went beyond bohemian chic and became a major new fad a few years ago. Even though popular fashion has moved away from the oversized appearance, it remains a boho style staple.

Other examples of bohemian-style sunglasses include ’70s John Lennon glasses and quirky cat-eye outfits. So, just choose your favorite sunglasses and rock them!

Because I frequently scratch, break, and even lose sunglasses, I usually buy cheap pairs from Amazon.

  • The question here is there anything more stylish than a loose bun, bright red lipstick, and oversized sunglasses? I am just digging how model-off-duty awesome this appearance appears to be.
  • If large round sunglasses are not actually your thing, try aviator sunglasses, cat-eye sunglasses, or unisex styles. The thing here is that they are unusual, so the shape is up for discussion.
  • You can try out round wire sunglasses in the style of John Lennon for a really bohemian appearance. They are just daring and will undoubtedly make a statement.

Patterned, Oversized Scarves

In fact, scarves are considered one of the most crucial pieces on this list. If you want a bohemian fashion style, you must have it. An oversized, large, and patterned scarf is vital for giving any outfit an added comfortable, earthy, cool vibe.

I usually buy my scarves on Amazon since I like to have a variety of cheap scarves to pick from. Having said that, designer scarves also make excellent investment items.

  • Simply wrap a poncho all over your shoulders and pair it with a loose-fitting knit sweater and a maxi skirt for a cool Stevie Nicks style. Complete the look with a headwrap and a pair of ankle boots.
  • With an oversized scarf, a simple and basic white t-shirt, a pair of ripped jeans, and relaxed canvas sneakers, look immediately awesome. Complete with a bohemian bag and layered jewelry.
  • There are numerous ways to pin, tie, or fold big scarves to create other items. For a music concert, simply tie one into a bandeau and match it with a pair of flared jeans. Then wrap one around your midsection and use it as a belt. You can also tie one to the handle of your bohemian bag or purse. The possibilities are limitless.
